We hope you are excited about the new school year! As parents, teachers, and students establish new routines and expectations for the new year, we hope that you will explore our refreshed website, learn about Oakridge PTA, participate, have fun, make friends, and help support the Heart of the Community - Oakridge Elementary School.
Oakridge is a vibrant, culturally diverse, and academically challenging neighborhood elementary school serving students and families across Arlington Ridge, Aurora Highlands, Long Branch Creek, and Crystal City. Given our close proximity to Washington, DC, the Federal Government, the Pentagon, National Landing and Amazon HQ2, we have students from over 50 countries from around the world and across the US. Our diversity provides opportunities to learn from each other, grow together, and thrive.
PTA's National Standards for Family-School Partnerships set the bar for how schools and parent organizations should work together to support student success. Families are essential partners to providing a high-quality education for every student. When families are actively involved, students are more likely to attend school, avoid discipline problems, achieve at higher levels, and graduate. Family engagement also helps schools - research suggests it is equally as important as school leadership or a rigorous curriculum to predict school success.
Oakridge PTA knows that a strong partnership among our families, school leaders and community members is important to the success of our students and school. That’s why we are participating in the National PTA School of Excellence program, which grows partnerships between PTAs and schools to enrich the educational experience and overall well-being of all students.
We need your help! As part of the process outlined by National PTA, we are requesting feedback from families, administrators and teachers at two points in the school year—the middle and the end. Using the community feedback, we will build an Action Plan to strengthen family-school partnerships.
